This article will cover why TikTok was banned, its re-emergence, and what it means for you, a resident of Nepal using this platform.

Why Was TikTok Banned in Nepal?

To better understand the present situation we need to read some past events. TikTok’s ban was not implemented randomly or without planning.

The government led by former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has taken this step against the App. They claim that it has a negative impact on society. In particular, they expressed concern that some of the trends and content of TikTok could influence the youth and thus be responsible for the problems facing communities today.

This means that such adverse effects will prompt a re-evaluation of the authority unless the measure is adopted.

For many people in Nepal, especially young content creators, this ban was a serious blow. Not just a mobile platform where you share short videos, TikTok emerged as an alternative way of life for people who had no hope, where earning through its platforms was also possible.
